Immanuel — God With Us

22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).  (Matt. 1:22-23 (ESV))

What a radical concept! The idea that God himself will be with us — descend to earth and participate in life here and continue to be with us and have a relationship with us — is unique in world religions. No
other religious tradition suggests the daring idea that we can know God personally and may approach the throne of grace (Heb. 4:16). Even the ancient Hebrews needed the mediation of the priests to approach
God.

But because Jesus came, we have this assurance that we can know God and know his presence in our lives. Meditate on that throughout this Christmas season. How does knowing God change how you understand the
world? How does it change the way you relate to others? May the peace of Christ be with you throughout this Christmas season because you know him.
